The Meteorology Department has issued a warm weather advisory for residents in the Northern, North-Western, Western, Southern, and Eastern provinces, as well as the Monaragala District.According to the advisory, the heat index—which reflects the temperature felt by the human body—is expected to rise to the “Caution Level” in several areas within these regions tomorrow (12).
The Department explained that the heat index forecast is calculated based on relative humidity and maximum temperature, representing the actual conditions felt by the human body rather than recorded air temperature.
Officials warned that prolonged exposure to sunlight and extended outdoor activity may lead to fatigue, while continued exertion could result in heat-related cramps.Residents are therefore advised to stay well hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure where possible, and limit strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
