TruRout, a new ride-hailing platform designed to maximize drivers’ earnings, was officially launched at the Waters Edge Hotel in Battaramulla. The launch event was led by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Munasar Munas, marking the platform’s entry into Sri Lanka’s growing mobility sector.
Addressing the gathering, company officials outlined the challenges faced by drivers on existing ride-hailing platforms, where commission charges typically range between 15% and 27% of each fare. TruRout aims to disrupt this model by introducing a zero-commission system, enabling drivers to retain 100% of their fare earnings.Instead of deducting a percentage from each ride, the platform operates on a subscription-based model.
Drivers are required to pay Rs. 250 for 24 hours of access to the platform, during which all revenue generated from completed trips belongs entirely to the driver. To enhance flexibility, TruRout has also introduced a 12-hour grace period, allowing drivers who are unable to pay the subscription fee immediately to continue accepting bookings and settle the payment later.
For rides paid digitally, only the subscription fee will be deducted automatically, while drivers will continue to receive the full fare from every trip. The company announced that the TruRout app is now available for passengers to book taxi services, with operations initially commencing in Colombo before being expanded to other regions across Sri Lanka.
The company also unveiled popular Sri Lankan YouTuber Ashen Senarathna as the brand ambassador for the platform.Motorcycle ride services will not be offered during the initial rollout due to safety considerations. However, the company stated that it is evaluating the possibility of introducing the service at a later stage.Company representatives emphasized that TruRout’s vision extends beyond commercial success, describing the platform as an initiative focused on protecting drivers’ incomes while promoting a fairer and more sustainable transport ecosystem.
The company concluded by inviting taxi drivers across the country to register with the TruRout platform and encouraged passengers to experience its services. Further information and app download details are available through the company’s official social media channels and mobile app stores.
