A powerful theatre production titled “Bulletproof Vests” was staged on August 26 at the Iran Cultural Center in Colombo, commemorating the 168 children of Minab School in Iran and honouring journalists who lost their lives reporting from Gaza.
Compiled and directed by Murthaaz Abdul Barry, the production presented six real-life stories of Gaza journalists, five of whom were killed while documenting the conflict.Based on real wills, letters and personal statements, the documentary-style performance highlighted the courage, sacrifice and risks faced by journalists working in war zones.
The event was attended by Ali Kebriaei Zadeh, Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of Iran, who appreciated the performances and acknowledged those who attended the commemorative event.
The organisers said the production was intended as a tribute to the victims and a reminder of the human cost of war and the importance of preserving the truth.
