The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has unanimously decided that additional costs arising from coal quality issues will not be passed on to electricity consumers in future tariff revisions.
The Commission emphasized that only reasonable expenses related to electricity generation, transmission, and distribution will be considered when determining tariff adjustments. It reiterated that during the previous tariff revision, costs linked to poor coal quality and other unjustified expenditures were not approved.
Maintaining this stance, the PUCSL confirmed that any future tariff proposals will also exclude such additional or unreasonable costs, ensuring that consumers are not burdened by inefficiencies or external factors beyond standard operational expenses.
