India’s teenage cricket prodigy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, will be required to use separate changing facilities during India’s upcoming T20 tour of England due to safeguarding regulations governing underage players, according to a report published by The Guardian.
The 15-year-old batting sensation is expected to become India’s youngest-ever international cricketer when he makes his debut against Ireland in Belfast on Friday before joining the Indian squad for a five-match T20 series in England.According to the report, safeguarding rules enforced by the International Cricket Council and regulations of the England and Wales Cricket Board prohibit players under the age of 16 from using adult changing rooms.
Consequently, separate changing facilities will be arranged for Sooryavanshi at all venues throughout the England tour. The restrictions apply only to pre-match and post-match changing areas. Sooryavanshi will continue to have full access to the Indian team’s dressing room during matches, team meetings, and other official squad activities.
The report further stated that the ECB is coordinating closely with the Board of Control for Cricket in India and venue authorities to ensure all safeguarding requirements are met. As part of the arrangements, Sooryavanshi’s parents are also expected to accompany him during the tour.Widely regarded as one of cricket’s most exciting young talents, Sooryavanshi has attracted significant attention through his record-breaking performances in the Indian Premier League and his recent exploits for India A.
His remarkable innings of 94 runs from just 29 deliveries against Sri Lanka A further enhanced his growing reputation on the international stage. An ECB spokesperson told The Guardian that safeguarding procedures are being strictly implemented across all venues hosting the series.
“This is an ICC event, with their safeguarding procedures active as they have jurisdiction,” the spokesperson said, adding that safeguarding assessments are being conducted to ensure full compliance with regulations.
Despite the logistical adjustments, the measures are expected to have minimal impact on Sooryavanshi’s participation as he prepares to take another significant step in what is already shaping up to be a remarkable cricketing career.
